My web design focuses on simplicity, utility and content. There are many approaches to web site design from very simple to so complex you need to be a programmer just to keep up with them. My approach to web design is to build sites that have the following characteristics:
- A clean, uncluttered look focused on YOUR content and designed from your concept.
- Based on a Content Management System so you can manage it yourself without needing programming skills.
- Containing extensive features such as photo gallery, blog capability, social networking, and many other options at your choice.
- Expandable to provide for growth of your site.
- Using proven Open Source scripts and programs so you do not have to constantly pay for upgrades and options.
- Providing ways to sell your product or service online with an online payment system as well as by mail or phone at your choice.
- Get it up and running quickly and economically.
I am not attracted to sites with a lot of clutter and chaos so I don't build them that way. It is not much fun spending countless hours working with programming when it is a photo and some text information you want to display, so I set up the site so you can add content in a few minutes, create a new page for your content and add a menu link to it all in a few minutes. Editing existing content is even easier and faster. I like a consistent look between pages of the site without having to re-create it on every page, so I use a template for that. A "Content Management System" is a program that helps coordinate all the parts of your site to achieve these goals quickly and easily. Once a "CMS" site is set up, all the additions, edits, and maintenance is done visually from the Admin area with no programming at all.
The Content Management System uses "Modules", "Components", and "Plug-ins" to add features like blogs, photo galleries, social networking, discussion forums, and many, many other features. There is almost nothing on the web that can not be integrated into a CMS site. Designing the site so all of the added features are "integrated" into the CMS makes it easy to add or change anything on it.
